With the death of a loved one you start to tear yourself apart. Every shared memory takes on another life and you replay, in high speed nonlinear erratic processing mode, each episode seeking out new meaning and answers.

My younger brother Joseph passed away suddenly last year and his absence still shakes me at the most unexpected moments. He followed a clear trajectory, yet, his death came with a brutal velocity. I always thought there would be more time.

In the subsequent days and months navigating the torrid emotions of grief, Joseph was ever present in the words and music I wrote. Dazed, numb on the days before and after his funeral ceremony; the radiant smile of his youth; the conversations between us and the conversations I wish we could revisit; the strength and unity of my family in our loss; and the kind, kind words of friends. His life and the emotional trauma I feel from his death all seeped through while writing and recording these songs. In a way it is doubtful I could have written about anything else.

“We Grieve For The Ones We Love” is a tribute to my brother Joseph who I dearly miss.

To Maria, my family and my friends, thank you for the strength you provide.
